This robotically driven stage produced the first large scale composite sheet. Previously, the largest sheet was only 1" x 2.5"

Scale-able Carbon Nanotube Prepreg Device [2011]

Designed in order to meet the large volume demands of the composite industry while simultaneously introducing a practical solution for fabricating large scale carbon nanotube reinforced composites. Similar to the filament winding process, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are pulled onto a rotating mandrel and polymer matrix is sprayed or deposited. The composite sheet is layered as many times as desired and then cut away from the drum. Partial curing of the epoxy matrix is easily accomplished using heat and pressure. Finally, the mandrel can be sized up or down to fit industry requirements for composite sheet size.
